For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is the gift of God.
Ephesians 2:8
God created us in Christ Jesus (v. 10). That he ‘created us’ is in line with saying that he ‘saved us’ and ‘made us alive’ with Christ (v. 5), and ‘raised us’ and ‘seated us with him’ in Christ (v. 6). This is what it encompasses when we say, ‘God made me’ or ‘created me’. God created me by grace through faith (v. 8). By grace in that God freely did it when he did not have to; through faith in that he made known the kind of grace through Christ that we may see its outworking. When he created me, he already had saving me and sitting me next to him in mind, unless they were the same thing in the first place. He worked this wonder ‘in Christ’ so that I would not boast of myself (v. 9) but do the ‘good work’ He prepared for me to do in advance (v. 10) today.
