But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.

Ephesians 4:7

With such full power at work to turn us to love Christ, Christ gives us grace as he has apportioned it to each of us. When we hear that he has ‘apportioned’ it, it kind of removes the overwhelming emotion of gratitude and makes us suddenly go cold, saying, ‘I knew it’ in slight bitterness. But don’t worry. God’s grace is infinite; however you ‘apportion’ it, it remains infinite. So no grumbling, and no excuse either. No matter at which ‘position’ you receive your ‘portion’, you can be fully humble, gentle, and patient, bearing with one another in love (v. 2). Because Christ himself binds us. Live in accordance with this calling, appreciating your humbleness and gentleness today. Whatever your position today is, see and be surprised at how patient you can be. Christ is at work!

  • As a person God is working to fill towards his fullness (3:19), why should you display the characters named in v. 2?
  • What is the gift Christ intended to give out (v. 8) as he went through the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension?
  • How much of his grace do you think Christ has apportioned to you? How much of it can you apportion to others in turn, and how? Would it run out?
