6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
Galatians 5:6
What a jaw-dropping statement—that law or no law, it does not matter! – According to Ch. 4, it was a matter of whether you are born of woman who had promise or no promise. But now even that distinction has completely collapsed. The purpose of the distinction was to demonstrate the outworking of God’s plan, that is, to save and rescue, not condemn and destroy.
In gist, then, whether predestined or not, it is nothing! The only thing that matters is ‘faith’s hearing’. It hears that Christ came to you to free you from whatever hindered and captured you—even the status of being born of the slave woman! In Christ, it works, and only in Christ. That’s the message the faith hears. If you can hear this message now, it is the faith the Holy Spirit implanted in you that hears it.
Lord, forgive me for having held a limited view of your love and your calling us, sometimes thinking we had a bigger mind than you and even bigger love than you. But the scale of your love and its action is ever so much greater than I can imagine, let alone do. Thank you, God, for it and for the fact that you are God. Let me be driven by this fascinating wonder today, Lord.
- What was your view of God’s calling or predestination before?
- How is it being changed as you hear more about it through passages such as today’s?
- Has your limited view of predestination or God’s love ever hindered you from approaching God or others?
