Colossians 1.6–8 The Report

verse 6

(KorKLB) 여러분이 기쁜 소식을 듣고 진리 가운데 나타난 하나님의 은혜를 깨달은 날부터 열매를 맺은 것처럼 그 말씀이 온 세계에서도 그렇게 열매를 맺으며 전파되고 있습니다.
(NASB2020) which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth;
(BB) Over de hele wereld worden mensen door het goede nieuws veranderd. Ook jullie zijn aan het veranderen. Dat begon op de dag dat jullie het goede nieuws hoorden en werkelijk ontdekten hoe goed en liefdevol God is.
(THGNT) τοῦ παρόντος εἰς ὑμᾶς, καθὼς καὶ ἐν παντὶ τῷ κόσμῳ ἐστὶν καρποφορούμενον καὶ αὐξανόμενον καθὼς καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν ἀφ᾽ ἧς ἡμέρας ἠκούσατε καὶ ἐπέγνωτε τὴν χάριν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ,

The fruit the Colossian saints are bearing is none other than the faith and love that spring from the hope in heaven, as explained in the previous verse. This is gradual change rather than sudden and at one go. Also, they are assured by Paul that, maybe contrary to their perception, the Christians in other parts of the world are also, like them, changing and bearing the fruit of loving Jesus and loving neighbours slowly but surely.

골로새 성도들이 맺고 있는 열매는 다름 아닌 믿음과 사랑이며, 앞절에서 설명된 것과 같이 하늘에 있는 소망에서부터 나온 것입니다. 이 변화는 갑작스럽게 한순간에 다 되는 것 것이 아니라 점진적으로 이루어집니다. 또한, 바울은. 비록 우리가 느끼는 것과는 다를 수 있지만, 세상의 다른 지역에 있는 그리스도인들도 마찬가지로 그들과 마찬가지로 변화되고 있고, 예수님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑하는 열매를 천천히 그러나 확실하게 맺어가고 있다는 것을 확인시켜 줍니다.

(KorKLB) 여러분은 이 기쁜 소식을 우리와 함께 하나님의 종이 된 사랑하는 에바브라에게 배웠습니다. 그는 여러분을 위해 일하는 그리스도의 신실한 일꾼이며
(NASB2020) just as you learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf,
(BB) Jullie hebben het goede nieuws gehoord van onze goede vriend en medewerker Epafras. Hij dient jullie als een trouwe dienaar van Christus.
(THGNT) καθὼς ἐμάθετε ἀπὸ Ἐπαφρᾶ τοῦ ἀγαπητοῦ συνδούλου ἡμῶν, ὅς ἐστιν πιστὸς ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν διάκονος τοῦ χριστοῦ,

Paul mentions Epaphras, who is obviously the one who preached and taught the gospel to the Colossian saints in the first place. Not only that, he also did not stop reporting back to Paul how the new believers were doing. He was the interactor between Paul’s ‘headquarters’ and the field at work. Just as the Spirit of Jesus goes back and forth between God and ourselves, teaching us about God and telling God about how we are doing. I hope we get to be called, as Epaphras, that we, teachers, are faithful servants of Christ working on behalf of the children, going back and forth between God and the children!

 verse 8

(KorKLB) 성령님 안에서 여러분이 사랑으로 생활한다는 소식을 우리에게 전해 준 사람입니다.
(NASB2020) and he also informed us of your love in the Spirit.
(BB) Hij heeft ons verteld hoeveel jullie door de Heilige Geest van elkaar houden.
(THGNT) ὁ καὶ δηλώσας ἡμῖν τὴν ὑμῶν ἀγάπην ἐν πνεύματι.

This is the kind of report we hope and believe we are reporting to God about the children (and ourselves for that effect)—about how much they, the children, and we, the teachers, or we, as the whole church, love each other in the Holy Spirit. (The Dutch and Greek texts have the nuance best). And we would not dare give a false report. Let us love each other deeply by thinking and knowing how deeply God loved us. Let us not be afraid to show our love. Let us not be anxious that this will not happen overnight and show the result right now. Let us just trust the love God loved us with.

이것이 바로 우리가 하나님께 아이들에 대해 (그리고 우리 자신에 대해서도) 보고하기를 소망하고 믿는 내용입니다—곧, 아이들이, 그리고 우리 교사들이, 나아가 온 교회가 성령 안에서 서로 얼마나 사랑하고 있는지를 말입니다.
