[인트로]
우리가 예수께 빚진 자라는 말은 어떤 뜻일까요? 그것은 단순히 “갚아야 한다”는 뜻이 아니라, 더 이상 내 뜻과 육신의 욕망대로 살 수 없다는 뜻입니다. 구원은 내 힘으로 얻은 것이 아니므로, 믿음의 삶은 내 삶의 주도권을 그리스도의 영께 내어드리는 삶입니다. 그러나 하나님은 우리를 “빚을 갚아야 하는 종”으로 부르지 않으시고, “아바 아버지”라 부를 수 있는 자녀로 삼으십니다. 그래서 우리의 부채의식은 무거운 부담이나 노예적 두려움이 아니라, 아버지의 사랑에 응답하는 자녀의 효심으로 변화됩니다. 더 나아가 하나님은 우리를 자녀로 삼으실 뿐 아니라 상속자로 부르십니다. 상속자는 장차 받을 영광을 바라보며, 이 땅에서 하나님의 일을 자기 일로 여기고 고난도 함께 감당하는 사람입니다.
What does it mean that we are debtors to Jesus? It does not simply mean that we must “repay” Him. Rather, it means that we can no longer live according to our own will and the desires of the flesh. Since salvation was not obtained by our own strength, the life of faith is a life in which we hand over the lordship of our lives to the Spirit of Christ.
Yet God does not call us “servants who must repay a debt.” Instead, He makes us His children, able to cry, “Abba, Father.” Therefore, our sense of indebtedness is transformed from a heavy burden or slave-like fear into filial devotion, responding to the love of the Father.
Furthermore, God not only makes us His children but also calls us heirs. An heir looks ahead to the glory that is to come, regards the work of God on earth as their own, and willingly shares in suffering along the way.

22. 신자는 단순히 예수님께 빚진 자로서 의무감 때문에 사는 사람도 아니고, 하나님의 자녀로서 아버지께 효도하려는 마음에만 머무는 사람도 아닙니다. 우리는 장차 하나님 나라의 영광을 유업으로 받을 상속자로 부름받았습니다. 그러므로 하나님 나라의 일은 더 이상 남의 일이나 단지 아버지의 일이 아니라, 장차 우리가 상속받을 나라의 일, 곧 우리의 일이 됩니다. 예수님께서 고난을 통해 아버지의 일을 이루신 것처럼, 우리도 그 길을 따라 고난을 감수하며 하나님의 역사를 이어가야 합니다. 이것이 신자가 살아가는 상속자의 인내입니다.
23. 이스라엘 백성은 애굽을 떠나 하나님께서 기업으로 약속하신 가나안 땅을 향해 나아갔습니다. 그러나 그 길은 곧장 영광으로 이어지는 편안한 길이 아니라, 물이 없고 험하며 곤핍한 광야를 반드시 지나야 하는 길이었습니다. 이처럼 우리도 죄와 사망이 다스리는 세상을 떠나 하나님의 자녀와 상속자로서 약속된 영광에 이르기까지 고난과 어려움의 시간을 지나게 됩니다. 믿음으로 사는 일이 힘들고 지칠 때, 우리는 그 고난이 상속자의 길에서 벗어난 증거가 아니라, 오히려 약속된 기업을 향해 가는 여정의 일부임을 기억해야 합니다.
24. 하나님은 멸망할 수밖에 없던 우리를 놀라운 사랑과 은혜에 빚진 자로 삼으셨습니다. 그러나 우리를 그저 빚 갚아야 할 종으로 남겨두지 않으시고, 자녀로 삼으시며, 더 나아가 마지막 영광을 소망하는 상속자로 세우셨습니다. 우리의 삶은 여전히 광야처럼 두렵고 지치며 멈춰 서고 싶은 순간이 많지만, 우리는 우리가 누구인지 기억해야 합니다. 우리는 갚을 수 없는 은혜에 빚진 자이고, 아버지 하나님께 사랑으로 응답하는 자녀이며, 장차 하나님 나라를 기업으로 받을 상속자입니다. 그러므로 성령의 도우심을 의지하여, 때로 괴롭고 힘들어도 이 신앙의 길을 끝까지 걸어가야 합니다.
22. Therefore, as verse 17 says, we must be prepared to suffer with Him. Beyond indebtedness and filial devotion, we are called as heirs who await future glory. The kingdom of God is the Father’s business, whose glory we will inherit; therefore God’s work becomes our own. As Jesus suffered in doing the Father’s work, we too follow Him, willingly bearing suffering and living with the perseverance of heirs.
23. Think of Israel journeying toward Canaan. Leaving Egypt, the kingdom of the flesh, they passed through the dry and difficult wilderness toward the promised inheritance. Likewise, to leave the world ruled by sin and death and reach the glory promised to God’s children, we too must pass through suffering. When faith feels exhausting, remember: we are believers who endure as heirs, bearing suffering and doing God’s will.
24. God has made us, once destined for destruction, debtors to His astonishing grace. Yet He did not leave us as servants; He made us children and heirs with hope of final glory. Our lives may still feel like wilderness, filled with fear and weariness. But remember who we are: debtors to grace, children of the Father, and heirs who persevere for God’s kingdom by the Spirit’s help.
