9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,
For the reason that the HS works this diligently in them creating faith that enable them to remain in God (=to love God) – Paul and co. prayed all the more that this would continue.
10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
So that the natural outcome of being in God, loving God, may arrive
11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,
The HS comes and strengthen you because he has made you a child of God – With that strength, like God, you ENDURE…
12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
Having to ENDURE things, at times (many times) it seems unfair, but instead of complaining, regretting, or accusing etc, you thank God – positive, aggressive, active, many times, painful thanksgiving. (Joyful means driven by the HS.)
13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
Dominion of darkness – not belonging to God; kingdom of the Son – where we belong now because of the Son, and cannot be revoked because of the Son.
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Because through what that Son did we are treated like the Son ( = we are in him) and our sins – all things that came from not knowing who we are, where we belong – have been resolved.
We sometimes pain in the choices we have made, bad ones and even in good ones, because we need to pay for them. God made a decision for you and me that he never regrets and he takes care of it to the end. His Son has done all the ground work, and now his Spirit comes by and strengthens us by enabling us with his character: endurance. It is painful to us and seems more than we can bear but because we know God is able to endure to the end of the world and beyond, we also know that in enduring we will not be destroyed but strengthened even more to infinity and beyond.
Lord, for me, it is hard even to bear the load of one day. We are made lonely and isolated by choices we have made. Turn it for good my Lord for you love me just as you love your Son. Let me endure with your endurance and love you back as your son.
