[인트로]
“누가 내 삶의 주인인가?” “우리의 진정한 부요함은 무엇인가?”라는 질문에 우리는 어느 정도의 정답을 가지고 있습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 오늘 말씀은 주인됨과 부요함에 대한 생각을 근본에서부터 다시 해 보도록 초대하고 있습니다.
부요하고 안정되며 중심잡히고 독립적인 삶. 누구나 꿈꾸고 계획하는 삶은 아닐까요? 그렇지만 벨사살이 성전의 기명을 가져다 술을 따라 마시는 모습에서 여러분은 어떤 마음이 드시나요? 나는 크리스쳔이기에 애써 지키고 있는 선을, 벨사살은 무례하게 넘어갔다고 보시나요? 그 때 벽에 나타난 손이 무엇이라 선언하는지 알게 되는 순간 섬뜩한 생각이 듭니다. 나는 그 선을 애써 지키고 있기에 그러한 하나님의 심판이 나에게는 유보되고 있는 것인지요?
우리가 가진 모든 것으로 내가 아닌 하나님께 부요하게 되는 일이 고민과 시도로만 끝난다 할지라도, 그 곳으로 영접하고 계시는 하나님을 뵈옵고 경외하는 일이 오늘 우리 중에 있기를 소원하는 마음으로 귀를 기울입니다.

“Who is the master of my life?” “What is our true richness?”
We do have some right answers to this kind of question. But today’s message asks us to rethink what it means to be rich and to be a master.

A life that appears prosperous, stable, well-centred, and independent—perhaps this is the life everyone dreams of and plans for. But when you hear about Belshazzar taking the vessels from the temple and pouring wine into them to drink, how does it make you feel? Do you perhaps think that he has simply crossed the line uncourteously and unthoughtfully that we, being such Christians that we claim to be, strive to keep? The moment we realise what the hand on the wall is declaring, it is spine-chilling. Is it because I am striving to keep that line that such judgement from God is being withheld from me?

Even if becoming rich toward God with all that we have remains only a struggle in our head and an ongoing trial and error, may we listen with the hope that today we come to behold and revere the God who accepts us into that place.

25. 예수님은, 자기를 위하여 재물을 쌓아 두고 하나님께 대하여 부요치 못한 자가 이와 같다고 했습니다. 그러니까, 하나님께 대하여 부요하다는 것은 무엇을 가리킵니까? 교회에 헌금 많이 하는 것? 하늘에 공로를 쌓는 것? 벨사살처럼 하지 않는 것을 말하는 것입니다.

26 내가 왕이라 할지라도, 모든 나라와 권세와 영광이 하나님께 속했음을 알고, 인정하는 것이지요. 비록 자기가 소처럼 풀을 먹거나 들판에서 이슬에 젖는 처지가 되더라도, 그 또한 하나님의 손에 있는 것임을 인정하는 것입니다. 왕이 되었더라도 그것이 하나님에 의한 것임을 깨닫는 것이지요.

27. 여기에 또 하나 추가하자면, 하나님에 대한 부요란, 그 하나님을 시험하지 않는 것입니다. 그가 계신 줄 알고, 또 그가 자기가 원하시는 자에게 주시고자 하는 것을 주시는 자유로우신 분인 줄을 인정하고, 우리가 그 하나님께 붙잡힌 자 됨을 믿는 것입니다.

28. 그 기명이 오늘날 교회에서 사용하는 어떤 예식이나 예배의 도구라고 친다면, 그 예배나, 또는 교회의 어떤 행사나 활동, 그리고 그 예배의 준비자들을, 우리 자신의 즐거움과 자기의 부유함을 드러내는 도구로 사용하지 않는 것입니다. 그렇게 사용할 때, 하나님은 경고하시지요. 메네 메네 데겔 우바르신.

25. Jesus says that this is how it is with the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God. Then what does it mean to be rich toward God? Does it mean giving large offerings at church? Storing up merit in heaven? It means not acting like Belshazzar.
26. Even if one is a king, it is to know and acknowledge that all kingdoms, power, and glory belong to God. Even if one were to eat grass like an ox or be drenched with dew in the field, it is to recognize that this too is in God’s hand. Even in becoming king, it is to realize that it is by God.
27. To add one more thing, to be rich toward God is not to test Him. It is to acknowledge that He exists, that He freely gives to whom He wills, and to believe that we ourselves are those who are held in His hand.
28. If those vessels are like the elements or instruments used in worship in today’s church, then it means not using worship, church events, activities, or even those who prepare them as tools for our own enjoyment or to display our own wealth. When we use them in that way, God gives His warning: “Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.”

- ‘자기를 위하여 부요한 삶’은 우리의 일상(시간, 돈, 선택)이나 또는 심지어 고귀하게 보이는 것들(예배, 기도, 헌신 등) 속에서 어떻게 나타납니까? ‘하나님께 부요’하려면 어떤 변화가 있어야 하겠습니까? What does ‘being rich toward yourself’ look like in your daily life (time, money, decisions) or even in our more noble-looking side of life (worship, prayer, devotion etc)? What kind of change must take place so that they might become ‘rich toward God’?
